How to Bake Sprinkle Cake with Your Kids

My 3-year-old son has been cooking for ages now. My husband and I got him a Fisher-Price pretend kitchen for his first birthday, and we found a really cool one the next summer that was more like a real kitchen. He could barely see the top of it at that tiny age, but no matter, he cooked all the time.   He even has a bunch of pretend food that my mother-in-law got him.  His utensils are real, though.  We gave him a small non-stick pan that was originally destined for our camping gear.  He has his own whisk, tongs, a set of wooden utensils, bowls…you name it.  That kid’s kitchen is better outfitted than kitchens of some adults I know!

For almost as long as I can remember, my little guy has been in the real kitchen with us too. Always wanted to be in our arms while we were cooking so he could see what’s going on, whether it was something mundane like boiling water for noodles or something more involved. He loves to help us cook for real, too, and for a long time already, we’ve been letting him. If he has scrambled eggs for breakfast, he whisks them while sitting on the kitchen floor. It’s so cute! He has his own stool and apron so when we do other things, he can stand at the counter and help. Not too long ago, we baked a sprinkle cake together. Check out how.
